Dozen Contestants Shortlisted For The Maiden Edition Of ‘The Cacao Show’

From doughnuts to ‘domedo’, waffles to waakye, and popsicles to pizza, the Vittles 2016 food festival is promising a grand array of mouth-watering delights for ‘foodies’ in Ghana. The event, which organisers have nicknamed “Accra’s Three Tastiest Days,” is already one of the most anticipated for the year.

“With about a week to go, we are still getting calls from interested vendors, but the spaces were completely sold out as of the end of June. I honestly wish we could fit them all in, but we have simply run out of space,” explains Leroy Ankrah, Principal Consultant at Diffusion Ltd, organisers of the event.

Ankrah and his team also feel “greatly inspired” by the response to the event on social media. “It’s almost impossible to work effectively in 2016 without technology, and we have used these tools to a good extent to engage a lot more than we did during our previous event, and also to learn a lot about who we are interacting with online,” he says.

The @vittlesghana pages on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have engaged over 9,000 Ghanaians, mostly women between the ages of 25 and 34 years, within the past four weeks alone. Unsurprisingly, the most popular posts are those that showcase food from participating vendors. “This is particularly encouraging, because our basic aim behind the food festival is to showcase the best eateries in Accra and all the great food they have on offer. We are looking forward to them coming over to taste the food,” says Ankrah.

Vittles 2016 will also feature the first edition of ‘The Cacao Show,’ a specialised competition which places a spotlight on sweeter delicacies such as cakes and chocolates made right here in Ghana. A dozen contestants have been shortlisted to participate in the competition for the ultimate prize of a British Airways ticket to London.

The festival will have a dedicated Children’s Zone, managed by BerryBears Kids events, and will also feature the Onga Cooking Competition for Vocational/Culinary school students, as well as live cooking demonstrations.

Diffusion Ltd is also maintaining its partnership with the Ghana branch of global anti-poverty charity organisation, The Hunger Project. The Vittles 2016 food festival event is helping to raise awareness and funding, through a portion of the gate proceeds, to support The Hunger Project’s activities in Ghana.

Vittles 2016 is supported by British Airways The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Ghana, African Regent Hotel, Onga Ghana, and BerryBears Kids Events.

No 'Shower Hour' On Big Brother Naija - Says MultiChoice

As preparations are in top gear for the second edition of social reality TV show, Big Brother Nigeria, organisers have revealed that there will be no broadcast of nude footage called ‘Shower Hour’, when the show returns on January 22, 2017. This comes to some fans as ‘decent’, following the controversies generated by that segment of the show, during the now rested continental edition, Big Brother Africa (BBA). MultiChoice is bringing back the Nigerian version of the series after 10 years. It had announced after the last edition of BBA that each African country will stage the show henceforth. Renamed Big Brother Naija, the show will have 12 housemates who will compete for the prize of N25 million and a brand new KIA Sorento car. Sponsored by PayPorte, the program will run for 78 days, starting 22 January 2017 with a two-hour, live, televised launch and end on 9 April 2017 with a two-hour, live, televised finale.
