As the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations kicks off in Egypt this weekend, the pursuit of glory for Uganda and Zimbabwe, deemed to be underdogs, will be live on DStv and GOtv. All the games involving both countries will be broadcast live on all DStv and GOtv packages. Uganda qualified for the 32nd edition of Africa’s football showpiece competition after finishing top of their Group L qualifiers comprising Tanzania, Cape Verde and Lesotho. The Cranes, as the team is popularly known, lost only one game en route Egypt. Coach Sebastien Desabre will bank on the likes of his experienced goalkeeper and captain, Dennis Oyango and striker Farouk Miya, who was the team’s top scorer during the qualifiers, to improve on their 2017 AFCON showing when they went out of the group stage. Patrons of Vodafone’s mobile money service, Vodafone Cash, can now use the platform to pay for their DStv subscriptions. The telecommunication company has partnered with the sub-Saharan African company, MultiChoice to provide customers a hassle-free option of cashless payments for both DStv and GOtv. The new option on the service enables customers to make payments for both monthly and yearly subscriptions. This is a first for any of the satellite TV’s mobile money service payment avenues, giving customers the choice to side-step bothersome month-on-month payments and subscription renewals. 2020 Oscar Nomination Committee Calls On Ghanaian Filmmakers To Submit Films – Get Details

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 2017 and 2018, approved a 14-member committee to select a film to represent Ghana at the 90th Oscars. Following the guidelines of the Academy, the committee was tasked to select from open submissions one film to represent Ghana at the awards. Unfortunately, Ghana could not submit a movie on the back of the submitted movies’ inability to meet the required standards. The committee, which has since been reconstituted, is currently calling on Ghanaian filmmakers to submit movies for selection for the 92nd Oscars – slated on Feb, 2020, Hollywood. The committee will watch the submitted movies and select those that meet the requirements and pass them on to the Oscar committee in California. The category is the International feature film. Vodafone Ghana Donates Towards Ark Foundation

As part of its commitment to empowering women and fighting domestic, Vodafone Ghana donated a cheque of Ghc 5,000 to the Ghana Ark Foundation, an NGO that provides shelter for abused victims in the country. The donation was in response to the Foundation’s calls for support to enable it reopen and run its shelter. The shelter, which has become a safe haven for victims of this global issue, was closed down in December 2016, due to lack of funds. Presenting the cheque to the Foundation, Hannah Ashiokai Akrong, Human Resource Director (HRD) at Vodafone Ghana said: ‘’Our commitment to fighting domestic violence goes beyond the walls of our organization. We are particularly interested in the role your Foundation plays in housing and reintegrating victims of domestic abuse especially women and children. A victim’s condition worsens when they continue to stay at the place of violence because they have nowhere else to go.’’

Tickets for the 2019 edition of the Ghana Meets Naija mega concert are selling out. Organizers, Empire Ghana, say initial tickets released last week, are almost sold out. The rush for tickets is a typical feature of the annual gathering of West Africa's biggest names in music. The Accra International Conference Centre on Saturday, June 8th will host the 2019 edition with top stars from Ghana and Nigeria battling it out for a claim to music's highest throne. This year’s event is football-themed, and also features a guest act from the Barbados. R2Bees, Medikal, and Patapaa will lead Ghana’s contingent this year while Nigeria is ably represented by rising star Teni, as well as Wande Coal, and Victor AD. Main DJ for the night is the award-winning DJ Vyrusky while DJ Putin and DJ Big N will square off during the battle session.
