AFRIMA Withdraws Hosting Rights From Ghana

The International Committee of the All Africa Music Awards, (AFRIMA) has withdrawn the hosting rights from Republic of Ghana for the 2019 and 2020 editions of the All Africa Music Awards, AFRIMA, over lack of capacity by the Host Country to meet the financial and contractual obligations entered to on July 12,2018, necessary to retain hosting the biggest music event in Africa. The decision was reached on Monday, July 15 after several months of meetings and consultations with relevant stakeholders to remedy the situation with the expectation that the Republic of Ghana would provide concrete assurances and guarantees to discharge its contractual obligations for hosting the 2019 and 2020 editions of AFRIMA after its disappointing performance on the contract during the 2018 edition of the Awards held in Accra between November 21 and 24 which the organisers successfully put together against all odds. BBNaija Twist: Two New Housemates Enter The ‘Pepper Dem’ House

Fans of Africa’s biggest reality TV show, BBNaija, were on Tuesday night introduced to two brand new housemates – Venita and Elozanam! The introduction of the new housemates follows an announcement made by show host Ebuka, during Sunday’s eviction show, regarding a “twist” in the coming week.  The new housemates’ entrance into the house brings the present number of housemates to 16. One of the new housemates is Venita, 32, a British-Nigerian Actress known for her role as Mimi in the comedy hit series ‘AY’s Crib’. Venita’s introduction has already seen sparks fly as she has struck an interesting relationship with the older housemates; the guys, especially Omashola, seem to be already fond of her. The second housemate introduced to the house is Elozanam, a popular social media personality known for viral instagram skits. He is also an actor with roles in some of Nigeria’s popular TV series.

BoG, NPRA, SEC Throw Full Weight Behind CBG In Restoring Confidence In The Financial Sector

Regulators in the financial sector have applauded Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) effort in delivering quality and strong banking services to its varied customers. At a meeting with Financial Institutions at the CBG Head Office in Accra on Thursday, July 25, 2019, the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Securities and Exchange Commission Ghana (SEC Ghana), and National Pension Regulatory Authority (NPRA) have thrown their weight behind CBG to support economic growth. Mr. Ernest Addison, Governor of BoG said “Consolidated Bank was birthed on 1st August, 2018. At the initial stage, there were challenges and doubts but under good management the story is positive now”. “We are very happy with CBG and I applaud the Management and Board of CBG for the hard work done so far. Global Content Piracy On The Rise

As digital systems have become more prominent globally and accessible to most in the last couple of years, so has the rise of illegal web and unlicensed web streaming sites.In a report by MUSO, released in March 2019, global piracy numbers reached almost 190 billion pirate site visits in 2018. It has been reported that over 189 billion visits were made to pirate sites in 2018. Television related piracy took up 49.38% of all activity related to piracy, with only 17.9% for access to film.  Music was ranked third most pirated medium in 2018, with a 15.87% share. Publishing and software were less affected with 11.49% and 6.16% respectively. In addition, in a recent report from Irdeto, MultiChoice Group’s digital platform security partner, in March 2019, Ghana, Algeria, Angola, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania were reported to be the highest consumers of pirated content in Africa. Biggie is definitely big on tricks this season! The BBNaija ‘Pepper Dem’ housemates once again took part in another round of nominations on Monday night. As with each nomination process, the housemates get to put up two of their fellow housemates up for possible eviction. With last Sunday’s eviction hammer still fresh in their memories, the housemates have come to understand the rules of the game. They each took turns in the diary room to make their nominations as usual, but it turned out that ‘Biggie’ had other plans. In what could have been Jeff and Thelma topping the list with six and five nomination nods respectively, Biggie in yet another twist announces that all 16 housemates have been nominated and hence up for possible eviction next week Sunday. The reason for this decision as Biggie later revealed was their punishment for disobeying house rules which he said included: refusal to attend morning workout sessions, whispering and speaking inaudibly amongst other infringements.

Seyi Forfeits Veto Power As Mike, Frodd, Tuoyo And Tacha Make Nomination List

On Monday, the housemates in Big Brother Naija ‘Pepper Dem’ took part in what may arguably go down as the most exciting and unexpected nomination show of the franchise. Following the previous day’s double evictions of Ella and Kim Oprah, Monday’s nomination Show resulted in Mike, Seyi, Frodd, Tuoyo & Tacha going up for possible eviction next week Sunday.  As is the norm, the housemates individually made their way to the diary room to nominate two housemates each for possible eviction. At the end, Seyi & Frodd topped the nomination list with a total of six votes each, with Tuoyo coming next with five votes. Mike received four votes while Tacha had four votes. Host of the ‘The Zone’ on Starr 103.5FM and multiple award-winning RNB and soul singer Jon Germain has released the highly anticipated video for his latest single featuring dancehall musician Jupitar. This comes after media reports earlier in the year that the singer was working on a song with BET and Grammy award nominee and American singer Raheem Devaughn. According to Jon, the video for ‘open up’ had to be shot due to persistent requests from his fans, since he released the audio last year. Following the surprise double eviction of Avala and Isilomo last Sunday, the housemates in Big Brother Naija ‘Pepper Dem’ have taken part in their first live Monday Nomination Show which has resulted in Tacha, Ella, KimOprah, Mercy and Sir Dee going up for possible eviction next week Sunday. The Nomination Show on Monday night was marked by suspense and tension as the housemates individually made their way to the diary room to nominate two housemates each for possible eviction.  At the end of the process, Tacha topped the nomination list with a total of eight votes with Ella coming next with six votes. Frodd received four votes whilst the duo of KimOprah and Sir Dee each had two votes. Julia Morley, the chairman of Miss World has been honoured in Ghana with a chieftaincy title as a Queen Mother for Bosomtwi Traditional Area in the Western Region. The honour is for her decades of service to vulnerable people all over the world.  Maame Esi Akomaso Nkosuohema I was conferred on her  at a ceremony at Huni Valley on Friday. This was during the commissioning of a ten acre land for the construction of a Miss Ghana Orphanage and Skills Development Centre.  It was witnessed by many personalities including Miss World 2018, Vanessa Ponce de Leon who travelled to Ghana with the Founder of Miss World’s Beauty with a Purpose Charity as part of Miss Ghana 2019 finale and Miss Ghana Foundation charity events.

As part of efforts to support Miss Ghana Foundation on it’s social intervention projects across Ghana, Miss World, Vanessa Ponce de Leon visited the Foundation of Orthopedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS) Hospital in Accra on Friday. She was accompanied by Julia Morley, Chairwoman of Miss World Organization and Founder of the Beauty with a Purpose Charity,  Inna Patty CEO of Miss Ghana organisation, Exclusive Events Ghana, Miss Ghana 2018 Nana Ama Benson and runner up, Elizabeth Mclean and host of others including Miss Nigeria 2018, Anita Ukah. Vanessa and the team toured the FOCOS facility and had special engagement  with children at the hospital.  She spoke with the kids and encouraged them to be strong. She assured the children society hasn’t forgotten them in their predicaments hence she and other queens were at the facility to visit them.

MultiChoice Launches MyGOtv Mobile Self-service App

MultiChoice, Africa’s leading video entertainment provider, has unveiled an exciting, new mobile app called MyGOtv for customers on its digital terrestrial platform, GOtv. The app will be available for download via the iOS and Android app stores at no cost. This platform will put the power of self-service in customers’ hands as it will allow customers to not only manage viewing preferences but also clear error codes, check account balances, make payments, change packages (upgrade and downgrade) and update their details anytime, anywhere. And with the start of season four of reality TV show, Big Brother Naija, customers get 100 additional votes to keep their favourite housemate in the competition when they vote via the MyGOtv app.

Wendy Shay Renders Apology To Former President Kufuor and Ghanaians

Ghanaian afropop artiste Wendy Shay has apologised to former President John Agyekum Kufuor for posting on social media a picture they took together which has since gone viral. In the picture, the former president is seen staring at the artiste who was in a body-clutching crop top that exposed her mid-section. Some critics on social media – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram – rode on the picture to ridicule the former president and also to criticise Wendy’s choice of fashion to visit a high-profile personality like Mr Kufuor. AAAN 46th AGM/Congress To Hold In Asaba

The Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria will hold its 46th Annual General Meeting (AGM)/Congress from 11 to 13 July at the Best Western Plus Elomaz Hotel, Asaba, Delta State. This was made known in a statement signed by Jenkins Alumona, Publicity Secretary of the Association. According to the statement, the AGM/Congress, which has as theme “The War Within: Solutions for Survival”, will be declared open by the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State. Vodafone Ghana has picked up five prestigious awards at the ninth edition of the Ghana Information Technology and Telecoms Awards (GITTA) held in Accra.  The telecom company won the Telecom Business Provider of the Year award for the second consecutive year, and Wholesale Carrier of the Year. The company’s socially impactful digital initiatives including the National Coding Programme, which are greatly contributing to a digital revolution in Ghana, earned it the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Company of the Year. Two senior executives in Vodafone Ghana were also recognised for their immense contribution to the growth of the industry.
