International advocacy organisation Global Citizen and Africa’s leading video-entertainment provider MultiChoice Africa are delighted to announce a special DStv pop-up channel to air the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 which will take place this Sunday, 2nd December 2018 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa from 12 midday.

The December event is the culmination of Global Citizen’s “Mandela 100” campaign in partnership with the House of Mandela; a series of global events honouring the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela in his centenary year.

Over the course of the campaign, Global Citizens have taken an unprecedented number of actions to apply pressure on world leaders to make commitments at the Festival around the issues associated with extreme poverty; gender equality, food security, education, the environment, and global health.

The pop-up channel will be available across all DStv packages on DStv channel 199 from 1 to 5 December and will air the festival that includes a combination of live, highlights and exclusive behind-the-scenes content of the epic event plus special content including documentaries Mandela: The Prison Years and Mandela’s Unsung Heroes. DStv customers will also be able to catch this channel on the DStv Now app and online service for customers to enjoy on-the-go.

During the five-day viewing, DStv customers will be treated to a selection of Nelson Mandela-focused documentaries and the main event performances by local and international music giants D'banj, Ed Sheeran, Eddie Vedder, Femi Kuti, Cassper Nyovest, Kasey Musgraves, Pharrell Williams & Chris Martin, Sho Madjozi, Tiwa Savage, Usher, Wizkid and select performances by musical power couple, Beyoncé and JAY-Z who will all form part of the headline acts at the first Global Citizen Festival to be held on the continent.

Trevor Noah will host the Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 with co-hosts Naomi Campbell, Dave Chappelle, Danai Gurira, Sir Bob Geldof, Gayle King, Bonang Matheba, Nomzamo Mbatha, Tyler Perry and Anele Mdoda while Oprah Winfrey will deliver a special keynote address at the Festival to remember Nelson Mandela and his legacy.

Said Global Director of Public Relations for Global Citizen, Andrew Kirk: “Global Citizen has received an incredible welcome here in South Africa in this most special year. Our final earned tickets have now been awarded and we can’t wait to greet those tens of thousands of fans and activists at FNB on December 2nd.

Through their action-taking, those Global Citizens have earned their way to see the full performance inside the stadium. Those watching at home will see most -- but not all -- of the show, which starts at 12 midday including some special behind the scenes content.”

“We’re honoured to be the exclusive pay TV broadcast partner for this event that celebrates Madiba’s legacy and reminds us all of the importance of giving back to our communities,” says Yolisa Phahle, CEO for General Entertainment for the MultiChoice Group adding, “We look forward to sharing this with our customers on the 2nd of December and also giving them access to the musical highlights in the days thereafter. Mandela believed that music unites us and uplifts us and here at MultiChoice, we believe that too.”

No 'Shower Hour' On Big Brother Naija - Says MultiChoice

As preparations are in top gear for the second edition of social reality TV show, Big Brother Nigeria, organisers have revealed that there will be no broadcast of nude footage called ‘Shower Hour’, when the show returns on January 22, 2017. This comes to some fans as ‘decent’, following the controversies generated by that segment of the show, during the now rested continental edition, Big Brother Africa (BBA). MultiChoice is bringing back the Nigerian version of the series after 10 years. It had announced after the last edition of BBA that each African country will stage the show henceforth. Renamed Big Brother Naija, the show will have 12 housemates who will compete for the prize of N25 million and a brand new KIA Sorento car. Sponsored by PayPorte, the program will run for 78 days, starting 22 January 2017 with a two-hour, live, televised launch and end on 9 April 2017 with a two-hour, live, televised finale.
