BOOOMERS INTERNATIONAL NOMINATED FOR 2017 GUBA

The Ghana UK Based Achievement awards (GUBA) is back and this year, it celebrates, acknowledges, and supports Ghanaian based businesses and individuals in Ghana and the United Kingdom.

The not-for-profit business and innovation awards presents the opportunity for these businesses to come together for a night to reflect on their achievements and be recognized.

After the final elimination phase, nominees for the Made in Ghana, Professional of the Year and Charity of the Year categories were announced on Friday 21st April 2017 at the GUBA Ghana Launch event at the residence of the British High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Jon Benjamin, in Accra.

Amongst the finalists from the Made in Ghana category is Booomers International, currently the biggest player and market leader in bamboo bicycle production in West Africa. The company was started by the enterprising Kwabena Danso after five years of building bamboo bicycles on a small scale for individuals and organisations.

An elated Kwabena Danso said “I am very excited about this recognition and will first of all want to thank God for making this possible. Also, I think it is important to express my gratitude to the team I work with and everyone who has been involved in bringing the company this far. This is the beginning of greater things to happen and it will definitely serve as a challenge to us to be more innovative, creative and productive, rather than becoming complacent”.
A Ghanaian social enterprise, Booomers International recently made international headlines when it launched its branded Bamboo Electric Bicycle (MY VOLTA) at the just ended 2016 Euro Bike Show in Germany in partnership with its German distribution partners, MY-Boo. Being the first of its kind, the bamboo electronic bicycle with mid motor has received some great reviews from known bicycle fanatics worldwide.

Currently, the company has gone beyond just bicycles and is developing new products from bamboo. The company’s products are in high demand in Germany, Netherlands, Australia, Canada, USA and will this year launch on the UK market. The story of Booomers is a unique one that indicates how determination and discipline can make a local company become a force to reckon with on the international market.

The 2017 GUBA awards night is scheduled to take place on Saturday 3rd June 2017 at the Intercontinental Hotel, 02, London and serves as the night to officially announce the GUBA 2017 winners from the shortlisted nominees.

Voting for nominees of the respective categories is currently underway and ends on 30th April 2017. To vote for Booomers International to win the Made in Ghana category, kindly visit www.gubaawards.co.uk/voting/made-in-ghana/
