Villa Monticello has captured 3 awards at the prestigious World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean gala ceremony held on April 9 including Ghana’s Leading Boutique Hotel, Ghana’s Leading Hotel, and Ghana’s Leading Hotel Suite – Kwame Nkrumah Suite at Villa Monticello.
The World Travel Awards was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry. Villa Monticello was the only Ghanaian owned hotel awarded at the red carpet event held in Zanzibar, Tanzania and attended by hundreds of the continent’s leaders in the travel and tourism industry, government and international media.
“This month marks Villa Monticello’s 5th anniversary and since inception, our goal was to create a boutique hotel that was not only luxurious, but also provides a level of service that is second to none. Winning three 2016 World Travel Awards is validation that we are on the right path,” says Anita Ottenhof, Villa Monticello’s Deputy General Manager who accepted the 3 awards at the gala which featured performances by leading entertainers from around the world, including Italian opera sensation Laria Della Bidia, contortionist Erika Lemay, and hosts, actress Abby Plaatjies and Tanzanian radio personality Taji George Liundi.
Villa Monticello is a rarity in Ghana’s hospitality industry as one of few boutique hotels and even fewer that is solely Ghanaian and majority female owned. World Travel Award winners were selected after a nomination and online voting process that encouraged guests and fans of over 500 nominees to vote for their favorite travel and tour businesses. 2016 World Travel Award winners also include Kenya Airways, recognized as Africa’s Leading Airline, Avis as Africa’s Leading Business Car Rental and Diamonds La Gemma dell’Est, Zanzibar, Tanzania as Africa’s Leading Beach Resort.
“We are thrilled by the outpouring of votes and support from so many of our guests and discerning travelers who truly appreciate the personalized service we provide at both Villa Monticello and Chapter One, our fine dining restaurant. Our goal is to create a “home away from home” for guests and it is evident that we have developed an in-house service culture to make that a reality,” adds Ottenhof.
In addition to Villa Monticello’s award winning design and customer service, the community and environment are also a major focus for the team. As part of their CSR efforts, Villa Monticello has become affiliated with “The Lady”, an initiative to support young Ghanaian women with skills for success. Plans to incorporate solar and alternative energy sources for its 16 custom rooms, restaurant and event space are also in the works.
The World Travel Awards brand is recognised globally as the ultimate hallmark of quality, with winners setting the benchmark to which all others aspire. A full list of the winners from the World Travel Awards Africa & Indian Ocean Gala Ceremony can be seen here.
