VGMA Nominees Jam Party: Gospel Showdown Expected In Ho

There are many things to look forward to in 2016 but many will agree that the biggest thing would have to be the 17th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

It has been dubbed the biggest event on the GH entertainment calendar because no event gets the entire nation talking for more than three months.

The talkability begins when nominations are opened, it increases when the nominations close and it peaks a few weeks before the main awards.

This year is not different, after the way the list of nominees were released every hour on the hour on radio, TV and social media, the VGMA took its talkability to a whole new high. In fact people are still talking about that new launch style but many others are expecting another event that is guaranteed to get many people talking. It’s the nominees Jam.

Every year as part of the VGMA event calendar, the nominees descend on a regional capital and party with fans. Last year the nominees were in Cape Coast and pulled the biggest crowd Cape Coast had ever seen as people traveled from surrounding towns to join the VGMA nominees jam party. This year, the people of HO will for the first time have a taste of what people in Accra, Koforidua, Tamale, Kumasi, and Cape Coast always talk about.

It’s something to look forward to not because of the impressive line-up but because there is a gospel showdown expected to take place on the nominees jam stage in HO. Last year team gospel consisting of Selina Boateng and Joe Mettle stole the show for many but this year we are expecting a different twist. Even though the two gospel artistes on the bill SP Kofi Sarpong and Patience Nyarko will have to out-perform the other genres, the will also have a point to prove to each other.

Patience Nyarko stirred controversy when she stated that SP Kofi Sarpong did not have enough hit songs on his “I believe” album to make it to the album of the Year category.  That statement did not go down well with SP who rebutted and indicated that aside from the fact that he had more than one hit on his album, he had also performed at most of the big gospel shows in GH hence his nomination in the overall artiste of the year category.

There is definitely some tension brewing there, tension that will be settled once and for all at the Jubilee Park in HO on the 9th of April, 2016.

It promises to be a night of nothing but electrifying performances from the VGMA nominees, aside from the expected gospel show down, there will be performances from the 2016 unsung artistes, Wisa, Atom, Jupitar, Kwaw Kesse, Edem, Bisa Kdei and EL. You maybe be coming to the jubilee park in HO to experience a gospel showdown but you will definitely be blown away with exceptional performances from all the other artistes on the bill.

The 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is sponsored by Vodafone, supported by Star Beer, Mentos, CAPP(Pisen), Furniture City, Airport View Hotel and powered by Charterhouse .
