Shatta Wale Should Have Been Part Of VGMAs – Selecta Aff

UK musician, Selecta Aff has joined the bandwagon of musicians who think that Charterhouse, organisers of 2016 Vodafone Ghana Music Award (VGMAs) shouldn’t have disqualified Shatta Wale from the 2016 VGMAs.

The controversial dancehall musician has been excluded from the award over his refusal to apologise for allegedly maligned the VGMAs board.

But it is unclear how long the ban will last, should he continuously refuse to apologise.

Speaking from his UK hideout ahead of VGMAs nominees jam at Ho over the weekend, Selecta Aff told NEWS-ONE that Shatta Wale is a fantastic and talented artiste. What matters the most, he said is his music and how it has impacted the lives of Ghanaians.

He should have been nominated for the VGMAs irrespective of his personal issues with the organisers. So long as his music is qualified, it is good to go.

“At the end of the day, Shatta Wale makes the fans move. He makes people move and that is what music is all about-touching people and having that connection with people. He does it and he promotes Ghana. As long as he does it for Ghana on the bright side outside of the country, I feel like he deserves nomination,” he said.

Selecta was speaking on wide range of issues concerning his music career when he made the comment about the VGMAs and Shatta Wale.

Selecta Aff (2)Born Emmanuel Osei Kaakyire, Selecta Aff is of Ghanaian parentage. He is an Urban British musician born in Italy and raised in London (Tottenham).

He began his music career as a soul and R&B artist in secondary school and he has since made impact in UK.

He was in Ghana few months back to promote the video for his song, Shele Mo featuring AdeJosh and also met a couple of artistes and producers, he wanted to work with.

He is currently waiting to do a collaboration with Kesse and also hopes to work with Kwabena Kwabena and Shatta Wale one day.

He currently has a song with Nigeria’s Olamide titled, “No Rush.”

“Everything went smooth while working with Olamide because we were both cool with the beat,” he said.

Recently signed to controversy records, Selecta has recently been nominated for a list of awards including Best Male Act 2015, best video (Shele mo), Best Collaboration (personal lover) amongst others at the UK Afrobeat awards.

His October 2014 hit single “El Shaddai” meaning “God Almighty” broke the language barrier between both English and Twi speaking listeners in the UK and received the most bookings to date in UK’s Afrobeats scene.

Also his 2012 hit single “Fine girl” which landed him a Ghana Music Awards (GMA): Best Act of The Year Nomination.

In 2013 Selecta Aff was nominated for Urban Music Awards (UMA) for his ‘ground breaking’ single “Holla At Me”.

Selecta Aff dedicated a year of his music career to focus on other priorities, and then later returned with upbeat dance song “Sekina” which gained a lot of viral recognition.

So far in his music career he has had the opportunity work with other music industry master minds such as Mista Silva (UMA 2014, MOBO Award Nominee) and Stonebwoy (VGMA Winner, BET Nominee) and Eddie Kadi (BBC 1Xtra Presenter, BECA Award Winner).

Ghanaian manager, Joseph Marshall says, “We are hopeful to make a big impact in Ghana’s music industry with his music. He has done a lot out there as Ghanaian and it is time to come home to do something bigger. So watch out for Select Aff. Remember the name.”
