MUSIGA Calls For Peace Songs For Election 2016

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is inviting peace songs from its members from April 6 to 29 for consideration and inclusion in a peace album compilation of songs to herald the need for peaceful and credible elections in November 2016.

The call for entries follows the Union’s selection by Star Ghana as one of its partner organizations for a campaign for peaceful and credible elections.

MUSIGA is among thirty five other civil society organizations selected by STAR- Ghana as implementing-partners working for peaceful and credible elections. According to the Union’s President Bice Osei Kuffour aka Obour, this is in furtherance of the Union’s support for peaceful elections in Ghana, a cause the Union has been very committed to, playing a key role in calling for peaceful elections during the last general elections.

He said the best three songs selected by the committee will win cash prizes and be up for the VGMA Development Song of the Year.

In all a total fifteen songs will appear on the compilation which will include an All Star song which will feature some of the leading musicians of our time. The chairman of the song selection committee and 1st Vice President of the Union, Bessa Simons says the songs to be submitted should have a message on the need for peaceful and credible elections and should be well recorded.

The Union will hold a series of nationwide Peace Walks, fora and musical concerts from May to herald the need for violent free and credible elections under a program dubbed “Using Musical as A Tool for National Cohesion in Election 2016”. These activities will be supported by social media activations led by some of the leading musicians in Ghana.
