The Bartenders Association of Ghana (BTAGH) which was founded in 2014 as a non-governmental organisation for Bar Staff, Baristas, Sommeliers, Connoisseurs, and Enthusiasts held it's official press launch over the weekend at Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra Ghana with a call on the general public and the government to join Bartending movement in Ghana.
Speaking at the Launch, the president of BTAGH MR. DANIEL RAYNOLD TETTEH said, the mission of the association is to take leadership of workforce development in professional bartending in Ghana through knowledge, innovation, service and skills transfer both locally and internationally, career progression pathways via lifelong learning, networking within the wider hospitality and tourism industry was well as promoting regional cultural drinking customs at competitive gastronomic events.
He said "Bartending is an art, a science, and a skill. It transcends flair, customer service, bar management, nutrition and food science, dietetics, dermatology, and sensory perception. I believe this is not a job that should be reserved for dropouts" he added.
On his part, Jean Lukaz, an Expert Trainer said bartending is war, art and science. It is not a profession for dropouts but a vocation reserved for those with the natural acumen of CUSTOMER SERVICE. Osei Bonsu, Executive Director of Ghana Tourism Authority also urged the association to be professional and creative in their dealings.
BTAGH is working to become a member of the International Bartenders Association (IBA) with the goal of giving Ghana International representation in the Global Bartending community.
Present at the launch was The Executive Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), The President of the Ghana Tourism Federation (GHATOF), Members of the Hospitality and Tourism Fraternities and Associations, Managers and Representations from Beverage Manufacturing and Distribution Companies, Honorable Members of the Bartending Fraternity from the Blue Kiosk to the 5-Star Hotel as well as members of the press.
The ceremony was graced by some stakeholders in the hospitality industry and hosted by AJ Sarpong of GH One TV.
