Ghana Makeup Awards At La Palm On August 27

Makeup Ghana has launched maiden ‘Makeup Awards’ to honour young generation of makeup artists breaking new grounds and whose contribution to the national economy has not been given due attention.

The organisation announced close to 60 nominees spread across 15 groupings for the grand award scheduled on August 27 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel.

Over 24 makeup artists will contest for the covetous Makeup of the Year award while training institutions, companies and media houses would be honoured under other categories.

The categories includes: makeup artist of the year, best special effects makeup artist, best editorial makeup artist, best bridal makeup artist, best celebrity makeup artist, most promising makeup artist, best TV makeup artist and makeup/beauty brand of the year.

The rest are: best beauty/makeup blog, best makeup/beauty school, most promising Ghanaian owned brand, best beauty/makeup Vlog, most glamorous celebrity and trailblazer.
The awards look to acknowledge work of makeup brands, retailers and industry players who support makeup artists to grow the industry.

It is the third segment in a chain of events originated by Makeup Ghana to promote and celebrate best practices in the makeup business.

Ms Rebecca Donkor, the Chief Executive of Makeup Ghana, said nominations for 14 categories were accepted and nominees were trimmed to four for each category, based on published criteria forming the submission process.

The final classification – Trailblazer Award – is a lifetime achievement award and was decided upon by the Awards board.

Judges have vast professional experience and exposure to the artistry and business of the beauty and makeup trade, she said.

Ms Donkor said the aim of the awards is to stimulate excellence in Ghana’s makeup industry and boost the country’s tourism sector.

“We believe to inspire excellence, we need to celebrate role models and innovators, for others to follow and emulate,” she said.

“We are organising this maiden awards in Ghana to recognise and reward trailblazers and budding talents within the cosmetics industry.”

She expressed optimism that the event would create the right ecosystem for the emerging and fast growing beauty industry to spur economic growth and generate jobs.

Makeup Ghana aims to create a unified platform that brings together makeup professionals, brands, beauty retailers as well as fashion and beauty content creators in Ghana under one umbrella to synergise and drive the industry.

The organisation seeks to achieve its targets through series of advocacy and consumer education campaigns, showcasing talent and innovation, training and professional development of practitioners and artists.

It also pursues and encourages best practices and standards in the industry with the aim of serving as a catalyst for growth and inspiring excellence.
