MZVEE ‘BEATS’ KAAKIE AT MTN PULSE CONCERT

Sensational songstress MzVee staked her claim for the throne of Queen of the Music scene and not just dancehall when, she put up a performance filled with excitement and inventiveness at this year’s biggest dancehall event thus far.

The MTN pulse turn up show was hyped as a battle between Ghana and Jamaica’s finest dancehall artists in line with the competitive nature of this music genre.

But where as Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and Samini were pitted against Alkaline, Kranium and Elephant Man, MzVee and Kaakie were up against each other in a feminine match up.

Being a shameless feminist, I was rooting for both young women, but at the end of the night it felt like a “no contest” decision. MzVee brought her “A” game but Kaakie had an off day.

My love for Kaakie prevents me from describing vividly how the crowd chanted “away” while she insisted they call her the dancehall queen. I will rather focus on the brilliance of that sultry singer called MzVee.

As if to drum the point home the natural girl was carried on stage on a throne to the as “dancehall queen” announced her entrance. She then engaged the fans with some of her hit songs like the true performer we are used to watching.

As if that wasn’t enough, she made a smooth transition from instrumentation to live band as she rolled out more hits with some surprising variations with the Patchbay band.

What confirmed my belief that she reigns supreme among the women was the fact that she exhibited her fantastic vocal ability, danced with poise and interacted with the crowd.

MzVee has said in recent interviews that she’s stepping up her game this year and on this evidence, it’s going to take some effort to dethrone her.
