See Full List of Winners At MTV Africa Music Awards

Nigerian recording artist, songwriter and performer, WizKid grabbed three awards at the 2016 edition of the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) which came off over the weekend at the Ticket Pro Dome in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He won Best Male, Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration categories while the ‘Song of the Year’ went to ‘My Woman’ by Patoranking featuring Wande Coal.

South African stars Cassper Nyovest and Emtee won the Best Live and Best Hip Hop respectively, with Shekhinah and Kyle Deutsch scoring gold in Best Pop/Alternative.

Ghanaian acts failed to grab any award. Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy lost out on the ‘Best Live’ award to Cassper Nyovest from South Africa while Kenya’s Sauti Sol beat Tema-based R2bees to the ‘Best Group’ award.

MzVee lost out to Nigeria’s Yemi Alade who emerged winner of ‘Best Female Act’ category. Zimbabwe’s Jah Prayzah also beat E.L to the ‘Listeners’ Choice’ award.

The awards was hosted by Bonang Matheba, Nomzamo Mbatha and Yemi Alade after Trevor Noah announced his withdrawal after doctors ordered him to take a rest.

There was also a special tribute to South African Kwaito legend Mandoza, born Mduduzi Edmund Tshabalala. He died on September 18, 2016, at the age of 38 after a long battle with cancer.

First staged in 2008, the MTV Africa Music Awards has recognised the talent of musicians, achievers and personalities from across Africa, rewarding iconic artists and gamechangers such as 2Face Idibia, Big Nuz, Cassper Nyovest, Davido, D’Banj, Flavour, Gangs of Ballet, HHP, Fally Ipupa, Liquideep, Mafikizolo, Lira, Nameless, Lupita Nyong’o, Clarence Peters, Diamond Platnumz, Anselmo Ralph, Sarkodie, P-Square, Tiwa Savage, Cabo Snoop, Toofan, Trevor Noah, Zebra & Giraffe, Uhuru, Wahu, Yemi Alade, and many more.

2016 Ghana Movie Awards Entry Closes October 20

The 2016 Ghana Movie Awards (MAG) has announced that entry for submission of works will close on October  20. This follows MAG's new strategy to open entry all year round immediately after hosting the awards in December. The Ghana Movie Awards is an event to recognize excellence by annually honoring achievements of actors, writers, directors, producers, technicians and other professionals in the film making industry of Ghana and the rest of Africa. PEACE HYDE WINS BIG! FIRST GHANAIAN AWARDED AS AFRICAN BROADCASTER OF THE YEAR

Ghana’s Peace Hyde has once again put Ghana on the map by winning the African Broadcaster of the year award in the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards 2016.  Peace recently made history by becoming the first Ghanaian to secure the coveted position of Forbes Africa Correspondent, a role which sees her representing the West African region for the prestigious leading business magazine.
