Accra Brewery Sensitizes More Students On Underage Drinking

The campaign against underage drinking by Accra Brewery Ltd (ABL), manufacturers of assorted alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, made a stop at St. John’s Grammar Senior High School in Achimota during the fourth edition of Hope 4 Life Tour, a youth motivational and mentorship programme.

As part of the event which afforded the students an encounter with some high profiled personalities and performing artistes on Saturday, the Corporate Affairs Manager of ABL, Mr. Cyrus deGraft Johnson, sensitized a section of the school’s students numbering about 600, on the dangers of underage drinking.

The stop at St. John’s Grammar followed interaction with over 2,000 senior high school students in the Central, Eastern and Greater Accra regions over the past month.

The Corporate Affairs Manager said ABL as a good corporate citizen has been embarking on this campaign because consumption of alcohol is for adults and they do not want to wait for underage drinking to become a big problem in society.
Mr. deGraft Johnson said that aside the sensitization of the youth, ABL is also sensitizing retailers to avoid selling alcohol to minors: “One of the things that we are doing as a company is also to train our retailers that sell our brands, that when somebody comes to your bar and you know the person is below the age of 18 years, do not sell to the person, or you suspect that the person is below the age of 18, do not sell to the person.”

Accra Brewery Ltd has been embarking on this exercise since 2014 and intends to reach 10,000 people this year.
