Viasat1 will wrap up Mother’s Month with a health walk dubbed ‘Power Walk against Cervical Cancer’ on Saturday 28th May, 2016 at the Aviation Social Centre.
In solidarity with Mother’s Day which fell on 8th May, Viasat1 is dedicating each week of the month to appreciate our mothers in a special way.
Among the activities to mark the month-long celebration are free hampers and gifts to celebrity mothers and mothers in our communities, makeover and spa treatment, and street invasion to educate mothers on how to use sponsors’ products to the optimum.
Ellen Korkor Asante, popularly known as Afia Schwarzenegger, helped distribute several hampers to many mothers and motherly figures in the communities.
On Saturday, 28th May, hundreds of women including celebrities and corporate women will walk from the Aviation Social Centre at 6 a.m. down to Silver Star Towers, to 37 and then converge at the centre for a brief talk on cervical cancer.
Participants will stand a chance of winning exciting prizes for their mothers through a special raffle after the walk.
Marketing Manager of Viasat1 G Broadcasting Ltd, Ms. Afua Kissi-Nyame, says: “In Ghana, about 1,500 women die from cervical cancer every year, while 3,000 women are diagnosed of the cancer each year, representing 35% of all cancers. At Viasat1, we believe that educating mothers and women in general on the side effects of cervical cancer is just one of our ways to raise awareness and prevention of this terrible disease.”
Ms. Kissi-Nyame also stressed the need to celebrate mothers in more than just a day. According to her, Viasat1’s initiative to dedicate the whole month for mothers is a reflection of not just the channel’s content, which is skewed towards females, but a confirmation of the channel’s appreciation of the roles women play in society.
Viasat1’s Power Walk against Cervical Cancer will begin at 6 a.m. on Saturday May 28 at the Aviation Social Centre. It is organized in partnership with Claron Health International, Voltic Mineral Water, and Aloe Vera King Juice.
