DStv To Showcase The Greatest Sports Movies Of All Time On SuperSport

“Show me the money!” Yes, the famous line from Oscar award-winning movie Jerry Maguire is coming to SuperSport’s screens this week, as the sports broadcaster brings you an epic line-up of the greatest sports movies of all time, starting this Friday and running every evening at 20:30 CAT on SuperSport 1.

The new films slot allows SuperSport viewers to get their daily fix of drama, action and intrigue from the sporting – albeit fictional – world. Until our real-life heroes return to the pitches, tracks and circuits, these icons of the silver screen will keep you entertained and on the edge of your seat.

Following  Jerry Maguire will be the Formula 1 classic, Senna (Saturday), which investigates the genius of arguably the greatest motor racing driver of all time; American Football epic Any Given Sunday (Sunday); the Sylvester Stallone boxing legacy of Rocky 1-5 (next Monday to Friday); and a movie close to South African hearts, Invictus (next Saturday), the story of how Francois Pienaar and President Nelson Mandela inspired a nation to heal old wounds and drive the Springboks to 1995 Rugby World Cup glory.

“We’ve negotiated with all the major studios to bring viewers this incredible line-up,” said Gideon Khobane, Chief Executive of SuperSport. “There really is something here for everyone, many of them classics with lines and scenes that resonate as strongly as ever.”

The titles range across a multitude of sports, from rugby to boxing, from baseball to soccer and cycling and more. There are serious movies, such underdog boxing tales from Cinderella Man and Million Dollar Baby, the wacky slapstick of Adam Sandler cult classics The Waterboy and Happy Gilmore, Oscar winners The Colour of Money and Jerry Maguire, to outright tear-jerkers (Rudy, Rocky) which will leave even the most stoic of sports fans with a lump in their throat.
