PHOTOS : GUBA FOUNDATION DONATES INCUBATOR TO GA WEST MUNICIPAL HOSPITAL

GUBA Foundation, a subsidiary of GUBA Enterprise in its bid to reduce infant mortality rate in Ghana, has donated a new incubator to the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit of the Ga West Municipal Hospital located in Amasaman, Accra.

The donation which took place on Friday the 31st of August 2018, follows the success of one of the GUBA Foundation’s campaigns to end Infant Mortality in Ghana.

The Donation ceremony was attended by Founder and Chief Executive Officer of GUBA Enterprise, Dentaa Amoateng MBE, accompanied by the Deputy High Commissioner to Ghana, His Excellency Tom Hartley and the GUBA Team.

Handing over the incubator to officials at the Ga West Municipal hospital, Dentaa pointed out that the gesture was to ensure that this health facility is best placed to deal with the challenges of infant mortality which is one of the campaigns the GUBA foundation is very passionate about.

According to her, the donation is to improve the health of new-born babies and help save the lives of those that are born premature.

“The thought of a child being lost due to the lack of equipment such as an incubator, is something that has to be avoided. If there is a particular equipment that can save lives then it is imperative that something is done about acquiring such equipment for our health facilities. This is why we set up the GUBA Foundation infant mortality campaign to help reduce infant mortality.  We also know that in Ghana every 15 minutes a child dies due to the lack of an incubator.  Therefore, we are here today to deliver this incubator to save many lives. We hope that it will be put to good use” Mrs. Amoateng added

Before the donation, the Deputy British High Commissioner and the GUBA Foundation team were given a brief tour of the hospital’s Labour ward, Maternity ward and Theatre led by Medical Superintendent, Dr. Eric Sarpong-Ntiamoah.

Dr. Sarpong-Ntiamoah expressed a tremendous amount of gratitude to Dentaa and the GUBA Foundation after receiving the incubator on behalf of the Unit. He stated the gesture comes at an impeccable time because currently, the hospital has no incubator at the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit even though, it is the only government hospital in the entire Ga West Municipality, which makes it a major referral centre for the district. He added that the lack of incubators at the hospital is a challenge to quality health care delivery. He therefore called on the GUBA Foundation to donate more equipment of this nature to help improve the hospital health care delivery.

In his remarks during the donation ceremony, H.E Tom Hartley described the occasion as “his favourite morning so far”.  He expressed his delight and stressed the role GUBA plays, adding

“This donation is a great story. GUBA celebrates the work of Ghanaians in the UK who have succeeded in life whether in Arts, Politics or Business through an awards ceremony which promotes the great work they are doing. GUBA Foundation also gives back through philanthropy to put life back where they have received life and that it is a fantastic story to celebrate.  Well done to Dentaa and the GUBA Team. This is also a celebration of the medical staff who have done fantastic work day in day out.

I am very proud to be amongst you and I want to thank you for the work you do here. This incubator is going to change the ratio; an increase in the celebration and joy and a decrease in the tragedy of losing a child each and every day.”

Also present at the donation ceremony were: Dr. Doris Ahrin, Municipal Director of Health Service, Diana Ofori-Larbi, Head of Nursing, Presiding Member of Ga West Municipal Assembly and Assembly Member of Amasaman, Hon. Love Alister and Assembly Member for Sarpeiman Electoral Area, Hon. Washington Patrick.
