Is Treason Afoot? - 7 May, Game Of Thrones Season 8, Episode 4 Review

Episode 4 of Season 8 of Game of Thrones, entitled ‘The Last of the Starks’, saw the aftermath of the epic battle between the living and the Army of the Dead, with our heroes now turning their focus on taking King’s Landing from Cersei Lannister. Catch all this action on DStv your home for all the GOT drama.

We open at Winterfell, where Jon Snow leads a touching dedication to those killed in battle, before a feast follows in which Daenerys Targaryen legitimises Gendry as a Baratheon and makes him Lord of Storm's End. Gendry in turn proposes to Arya Stark, but she turns him down, while another love connection come to fruition when Jaime Lannister and Brienne finally get together.

After agreeing to a course of action in regards to Cersei and King’s Landing, Jon sets off with Ser Davos down the Kingsroad (but not before revealing his true parentage to Sansa and Arya) and Daenerys, her dragons and the fleet sail to Dragonstone.

However, they are ambushed by Euron’s ships and the Dragon Rhaegal is killed by multiple spear shots. In addition, Cersei takes Missandei as a hostage. Upon learning of this attack, Jaime decides to leave Winterfell and head south despite Brienne’s pleas that he remain.

In the meantime, Sansa reveals to Tyrion Jon’s true heritage, and he in turn shares the information with Varys. After surviving the attack by Euron, the eunuch admits that Jon would make a better leader than Daenerys – something Sansa hinted at earlier in the episode. With treason afoot, Tyrion insists he will remain loyal to the ‘Mother of Dragons’.

At King’s Landing, Cersei reveals to Euron that she is pregnant and lies to him by insisting is the father. She orders the gates of the Red Keep remain open, making the citizens hostages to deter an all out assault on the city.

Daenerys, Tyrion, Varys, Grey Worm and Drogon arrive at the walls of King's Landing. The two opposing queens demand each other’s surrender, before Tyrion appeals to Cersei’s humanity, asking her to surrender for the sake of her unborn child.

However, Cersei refuses and the episode ends with an act of war as she orders Gregor Clegane to behead Missandei, much to the horror of Grey Worm and Daenerys.
