DStv Launches East African Movie Pop-up Channel

MultiChoice is delighted to deliver the best movies from East Africa to its DStv customers via a specially-curated M-Net Movies pop-up channel from December 10, 2018 until February 3, 2019.

The special holiday season pop-up channel called East Africa Movie Fest will be available to DStv customers on Compact, Compact Plus and Premium. The channel will premiere new movies for five full hours each day for 8 weeks. East Africa Movie Fest channel will be available on DStv Channel 197 and will open every day at 3pm and run until 12midnight and will feature the best movie titles from Maisha Magic Bongo, Maisha Magic East and Pearl Magic Uganda channels.

Top Kenyan productions that will feature include Stella, a film about a spoilt teenager who has everything she wanted until an unfortunate twist of events deters her ambition. Unable to cope, she moves to the village to live with her aunt where she must learn about hard work and family to survive. Stella will premiere on 19 December at 1:30pm.

Uriah, produced by leading Kenyan film producer Likarion Wainania is a story about a young witty man named Oscar who will do anything to get the woman of his dreams, Uriah. He plans a series of pranks to get her attention, but his ex-girlfriend will not make things easy as she is still in love with Oscar. Catch Uriah on 20 December 2018 at 6:35pm

Flowers and Bricks featuring Job, a poor but honest foreman is trying to build his small house in a plot outside town gets entangled with chaotic banks, bureaucratic government agencies, evil brokers and crooked contractors while at the same time his “matrimonial bed” seems to have extra visitors...Flowers and bricks will air on 15 January 2019 at 5:30pm. Playboy, a Kenya drama showcases a story around Rikki.

Rikki is every girl’s dream boy, and the ultimate bachelor, but he finds himself in an emotional journey with a young girl who teaches him life's most valuable lessons about love, his daughter. Playboy will air on 14 January 2019 at 4:00pm.

Tanzania will showcase Kafia Ghetto on 19 December at 5:35pm. The drama tells the story of Leon who lives a life supported by his women. One night, he has to deal with traumatic loss of his lover’s death in his house. He also gets kicked out and has to find money to pay his rent to pay after he is kicked out for 6 months’ rent arears. In the movie Karibu Tandale, Sikitiko and her family lead a very miserable life. Her mum has an affair with a man who is younger than her first born child.

Sikitiko's brother has a bad reputation in the area. Sikitiko find herself in deeper trouble after she meets a man who completely changes her life for the worst.  Karibu Tandale will air on 28 December at 5:20pm.

Pandu, a romance drama will air on 7 January 2019 at 25:45pm and showcases the story of a man who works tirelessly to make ends meet. His wife Fatuma, is tired of a life of hardship. Fatuma decides to get a job quickly starts having an affair with her boss. When Pandu finds out all hell breaks loose. Muokota Makopo features a family bound by witchcraft. Nelson intends to grab all his family’s wealth and consults a juju man to cause his family members memory loss. His plan fails miserable and Nelson loses in this game. Muokota Makopo will air on 19 January 2019 at 4:00pm.

Pearl Uganda will showcase authentic Ugandan stories. House Arrest, a movie about a young woman who kills her abusive husband and is bewitched by his lover. She is haunted by the spirit of her late husband and finds herself having to fight for her life. House Arrest will air on 23 December 2018 at 5:00pm. My Policy tells the story of a wife who plots to kidnap her husband in order to obtain his insurance policy. Unfortunately, her plan aborts when her husband is mysteriously murdered. Catch My Policy on 14 January 2019 at 12:00pm.

Milika is looking forward to celebrating the new year with her boyfriend David who fails to make it. But when she gets back home, thugs break into her house and she is trapped inside the house. She must find her way out. Watch Break in on 30 December 2018 at 2:20pm.  Mother in law Nazaala is a story about a mother who desires to see her son settle with a village girl as she believes village girls are well brought up unlike their city counterparts.

She goes out of her way to sabotage her son’s relationships with women from the city as she desires to couple him with a girl from the village. Mother in law Nazaala will air on 15 January 2019 at 3:00pm.

The East Africa Movie Fest pop-up channel will go live on DStv Channel 197 at 12pm GMT on 10 December 2018 to 3 February 2019 to all DStv customers on Compact, Compact Plus and Premium.
