After recently being announced as a winner of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Programme (TEEP), enterprising and young Ghanaian fashion entrepreneur, Ms. Mawuenana Ami Yomekpe and her wholly owned Ghanaian fashion brand, AfroModTrends, continues to make the headlines internationally.

Last weekend, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer and her team made a strong statement for extraordinary African fashion when AfroModTrends showcased at the 2017 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Cape Town, South Africa where the brand successfully debuted their latest collection.

The dazzling new collection, “The African Gatsby”, which has been receiving great reviews across various social media platforms from the moment it was showcased is inspired by the story of a Gatsby party in all its glitz and glamour set in the 1920’s, and with a modern African twist.

Speaking after the show, Ms. Yomekpe expressed her delight to have participated in the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and particularly excited with the positive feedback from fashionistas around the world who took time to review her collection.

“It is such a great feeling to get this kind of endorsement from connoisseurs of the trade, more especially for the first time showcasing at such a stage. For us at AfroModTrends, it comes as a challenge to us to do a lot more to keep raising the bar higher.

It has been a great event as I have taken time to explore some business ventures and other potential collaborations going forward with industry players in South Africa and the rest of Africa. Also, the networking and interaction with other designers has been amazing”, she said.

AfroModTrends was established in 2011 with a retail outlet in Accra (close to Photo Club, Osu) and the brand is known for its finest ladies casual tops, skirts, chic dresses and fabulous glitzy gowns for woman of every age.
