BBNaija Housemates In Isolation Ahead Of Live Show

Ahead of the commencement of Season 5 of the Big Brother Naija show on Sunday, all new housemates are currently in isolation. The organisers had announced that the 2020 edition of the reality show will go live on Sunday, July 19 on GOtv.

Amid the Covid-19 crisis and the social distancing protocol, many wondered if BBNaija will hit TV screens this year. At a virtual press briefing on Thursday, MultiChoice disclosed that they were working with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) to ensure the highest level of safety of housemates and the production crew.

The organisers announced that “potential housemates are currently in isolation ahead of the July 19 premiere”. “They will be monitored whilst in isolation until they are cleared as Covid-19 free. Anyone that shows signs of ill health, will as expected not be a part of the show.”

The Big Brother House has also been disinfected and won’t be accessible to anyone till when the housemates make their way into their new abode. Channel Director, Africa Magic, Wangi Mba-Uzoukwu, explained that even before the current pandemic, housemates usually go through extensive health checks before entering the house.

Noting that, this protocol has been elevated due to the present circumstances, she said, “the Big Brother show lends itself to a certain level of quarantine, seamlessly integrating into the Covid-19 guidelines.”

Past winners of the show include Katung Aduwak (2006), Michael Efe Ejeba (2017), Miracle Igbokwe (2018) and Mercy Eke (2019). Fans in Ghana will be able to watch the show live 24/7 on the GOtv MAX package in Ghana.

No 'Shower Hour' On Big Brother Naija - Says MultiChoice

As preparations are in top gear for the second edition of social reality TV show, Big Brother Nigeria, organisers have revealed that there will be no broadcast of nude footage called ‘Shower Hour’, when the show returns on January 22, 2017. This comes to some fans as ‘decent’, following the controversies generated by that segment of the show, during the now rested continental edition, Big Brother Africa (BBA). MultiChoice is bringing back the Nigerian version of the series after 10 years. It had announced after the last edition of BBA that each African country will stage the show henceforth. Renamed Big Brother Naija, the show will have 12 housemates who will compete for the prize of N25 million and a brand new KIA Sorento car. Sponsored by PayPorte, the program will run for 78 days, starting 22 January 2017 with a two-hour, live, televised launch and end on 9 April 2017 with a two-hour, live, televised finale.
